Special Issue on the Trial of Former Chadian President Hissène Habré

The three articles contained in this special issue of the African Journal of International Criminal Justice were selected for publication following a competitive process and their presentation by the authors at a conference, “The Trial of President Hissène Habré: A Turning Point for African and Global Justice?”, held in Dakar, Senegal on 22 and 23 February 2018. The conference was convened by the Habré Research Project, which is a collaborative research initiative based at Florida International University (Miami, USA) and Temple University (Philadelphia, USA). The principal investigators are Professor Charles C. Jalloh and Professor Margaret M. deGuzman, who were assisted by Dr. Ndeye Amy Ndiaye. The research, which aimed to assess the contributions of the Habré trial to Africa and international justice, is funded by the Africa Regional Office of the Open Society Foundation. The implementing partner for the first phase of the research was the Council for Development of Social Science Research (CODESRIA), based in Dakar, Senegal. A co-authored book by the principal investigators is being planned for the final phase of the project.
